The Sant Cristòfol festival in Morella embarks on a new phase this year with a renewed program that blends tradition, motors, community, and leisure. The organizers from Peña Calcetins have designed a packed agenda for July 3rd and 4th, aiming to strengthen this historic celebration and make it a major summer attraction in the capital of els Ports.
The main novelty arrives on Friday afternoon with the 'crazy cars' ascent and exhibition at Pla dels Estudis. Starting at 6:00 PM, residents and visitors can get a close look at the unique vehicles that will compete the next day in one of the program's most anticipated events. This initiative has generated significant excitement, with about ten participants already confirmed. The opening day will conclude with a mass and rosary in honor of Sant Cristòfol, preserving the religious aspect of a festival deeply rooted in local history.
Saturday will host a significant portion of the events. Following the traditional popular lunch, the blessing of vehicles will take place, one of the celebration's most emblematic moments, drawing numerous drivers and motor enthusiasts each year. At midday, the sports center will host a popular meal open to residents and visitors, which organizers hope will be a highlight of the weekend. Tickets are available at various local collaborating establishments. The afternoon will feature the 'crazy cars' competition, a festive event where imagination and humor are as crucial as speed. Vehicles, built by the participants themselves, will race on a circuit in a contest promising spectacle, creativity, and fun for the audience.
The evening program includes another notable addition this year: a mano a mano bullfighting exhibition between local bullfighters Octavio and Manrique. This event aims to broaden the festive offerings and attract fans from Morella and surrounding towns. After the bullfight, the celebration will continue with music and a mobile disco until the early morning hours.
Peña Calcetins emphasizes the considerable effort invested in recent months to deliver an ambitious program and expresses special gratitude for the involvement of local businesses. Companies, industries, and transporters from Morella and the region have actively collaborated to support the organizers, a backing that the young organizers highly value and consider essential for the festival's continuity. The Morella City Council is cooperating by providing the necessary venues for the events, including the Plaça de Bous and the Espai Firal.
