The city of Alcoy joins the celebration of World Modernism Day, an event that takes place every June 10th since 2013. This year, the international guiding theme is women in the Modernist era, a slogan to which Alcoy responds with an agenda of events designed to facilitate participation from residents and visitors, concentrating most activities on the weekend.
Activities began on Wednesday, June 10th, with the presentation of a magazine from the National Association of Modernist Entities, focusing on the influence of Antoni Gaudí in the associated cities.
The bulk of the program takes place on Saturday, June 13th, and Sunday, June 14th. Saturday includes guided tours of the Casa del Pavo, allowing visitors to discover its hall, shed, and garden. Additionally, at 12:00 PM, there will be a suffragette parade and demonstration organized by Friends of Modernism through the city center streets, starting from Plaça Ramón y Cajal and passing through Sant Francesc and Sant Llorenç to reach Plaça de Dins.
Sunday, June 14th, will feature a theatricalized visit about women in Modernism, starting at 11:00 AM from the Tourist Info. In parallel, the mobile application Escape City will offer a route on social and artistic revolution.
The Councilor for Tourism, Lorena Zamorano, highlighted the importance of moving the events to the weekend to facilitate access for families and workers. "Modernism is a fundamental part of the city, and discovering the role of women, which is this year's leitmotif, also helps us better understand our current society," she stated. She positively valued the varied offer combining tourism, culture, and leisure, promoting the local economy and inviting citizens and visitors to participate.
