The construction of PowerCo's battery gigafactory in Sagunt is advancing as planned. Civil works for the first production block are complete, and the second block is expected to be finished by the end of summer. Current efforts focus on installing cleanrooms and dry rooms, essential spaces for battery cell manufacturing. Once this phase is concluded, the installation of machinery will commence.
PowerCo has reported that over 500 containers carrying equipment have arrived and will be progressively installed across various stages of the production process. Concurrently, a provisional quality laboratory has been established at Greenrupive's facilities in Paterna to ensure quality control from the outset. This center will replicate analyses planned for the definitive laboratory at the Sagunt plant and has already received samples from PowerCo's German factory in Salzgitter for initial testing.
Regarding employment, PowerCo Spain currently has 370 employees. The company has begun hiring plant operators and has a team of approximately 50 workers dedicated to areas such as maintenance, quality, and production. The company has mobilized €2.2 billion of the total investment planned for the project.
The multinational is also promoting specialized personnel training. After the summer, a Dual Vocational Training program in Laboratory Analysis and Quality Control will launch at CIPFP Vicente Blasco Ibáñez in Valencia. Furthermore, the University of Valencia and the Polytechnic University of Valencia are participating in an inter-university master's degree on battery technology. Currently, 25 production professionals are undergoing intensive training in Dalian, China. The future Battery Campus, located next to the gigafactory, will centralize these training initiatives starting in 2027.
