Criminal offenses in Sagunto have set a new record during the first quarter of the year, with an average exceeding 10 daily. The crime rate per 1,000 inhabitants has also marked a new peak, standing at 12.3 offenses. Despite this increase, Sagunto's figure remains below the average for the Valencian Community (12.9), the province of Valencia (13.5), and the city of Valencia (18.4).
The trend in Sagunto's crime rate saw a significant shift in 2022, interpreted by some specialists as a "rebound effect" following pandemic-related restrictions. After falling in 2020 and 2021, crime surged by 45% in 2022 to 11.9 offenses per 1,000 inhabitants, a historic high that has been surpassed this year.
One of the negative points in the crime report is the 11.5% increase in the total number of criminal offenses, reaching 899 cases. The crimes that have risen the most are vehicle thefts, with a 44% increase to 22 cases, and petty thefts, which grew by 36% to 214.
To a lesser extent, attempted murders (doubled to two), rapes (one registered), robberies with violence and intimidation (11 cases), and other conventional crimes (442 cases) have also increased. This category includes threats, coercion, damages, misappropriations, home invasions, violations of public order, document forgery, and breaches of sentence.
Cybercrime continues its escalation, albeit at a more moderate pace. During the first quarter, cases of computer crime grew by 4.2%, nearing 150, most of which were telematic scams.
On the positive side, notable decreases include a 60% drop in sexual freedom offenses (from 10 to 4 cases), drug trafficking (also 60% less), injuries and mass brawls (down 58%), and burglaries in homes (down 23%, to around thirty).
