The Elche City Council has carried out a new reforestation effort in the Hort de La Mareta, a public space located next to the Raval health center. This time, sunflowers have been planted, a novelty for this orchard, in addition to refurbishing the water and irrigation channels.
The mayor, Pablo Ruz, highlighted the importance of this initiative, which is part of the ongoing work to replant palm trees and conduct "intensive reforestation of the orchards." According to Ruz, "this is heritage, it is landscape, above all it is preserving Elche's legacy and its future," and he stressed that this task had been "long overdue" by the council.
“"It cannot be that there are already bottles and trash from some uncivilized individuals in an orchard that has just been cleaned and is being prepared. We ask for everyone's collaboration to continue making the Palmeral de Elche a cultural space, a space of identity, and also a space for everyone's enjoyment."
Furthermore, the mayor called for civic responsibility and public awareness, lamenting the presence of "bottles and trash from some uncivilized individuals" in a space that has just been prepared. He requested everyone's collaboration to preserve the Palmeral de Elche as a "cultural space, a space of identity, and also a space for everyone's enjoyment".
