Officers from the Local Police of Elche intervened in a home in the Carrús neighborhood to assist a 92-year-old woman suffering from severe family neglect. The woman, who has a recognized dependency level of 3, activated her teleassistance button, which mobilized emergency services.
Upon arrival at the residence, officers found her in "limit conditions of helplessness" and with clear signs of lack of basic care. The woman explained that she lived alone and that the relative responsible for her care had neglected her. During the inspection, it was found that she had been surviving solely on milk and biscuits for several days, which were the only food items available, and that the refrigerator was empty and the kitchen appliances were unusable.
A situation of insalubrity, with lack of hygiene, disorder, and a strong odor, was also noted by the officers. Both the teleassistance staff and the dispatched doctor indicated that this was not an isolated incident, as there were previous interventions related to the woman's situation.
Both the teleassistance staff and the doctor dispatched to the scene indicated that this was not an isolated incident, as there were previous interventions related to the affected woman's situation.
Given the absence of family support and the woman's worrying condition, the doctor determined her immediate transfer and hospitalization. The Local Police have initiated judicial proceedings and requested the revocation of the de facto guardianship of the responsible relative due to alleged serious and sustained breach of her duties of care and protection.
