The Hoguera Molinos del Calvario, the only monument erected in Torrevieja for the San Juan festivities, culminates its celebration this Wednesday with the burning of the children's and adult monuments. These festivities, which have brought life to the neighborhood for a week, conclude with a Gran Mascletà de Hogueras (firecracker display) in the Plaza del Molino, followed by a meal, games, raffles, and a DJ Rafa set. The burning, scheduled for around half-past midnight, will include a fireworks display and live music.
The week has been full of activities, starting with a parade to collect the 'ninot' (effigy) and the lighting of the bonfires. The program also included the 'plantà' dinner, the inauguration of the 'barraca' (festive tent), and the erection of the children's monument in Chapaprieta street. Over the following days, the committee organized games, children's workshops, raffles, and offered bar service at popular prices, with the collaboration of the Torrevieja Carnival Association.
Performances by dance academies such as María del Ángel, Ángela Blanco, Soul Dance, Paya’s, and Bravo Estudio, along with Drag La Morena and musical sets by DJ Rafa, completed the entertainment offerings. The Hoguera Molinos del Calvario also shared a day with its sister 'hogueras' in Benidorm and Guardamar del Segura, holding a popular paella and making an offering to the patron saint of Alicante.
This monument, along with its corresponding children's one, is made possible through the collaboration of the Torrevieja City Council, the Provincial Council of Alicante, and Caja Rural Central. These events keep alive the flame of the Mediterranean fire festivals in the city, recalling that in the 1990s Torrevieja had several bonfire monuments.
