The provincial leadership of the PSPV-PSOE has disavowed the local committee's decision in Almoradí to remove two councilors, deeming it a violation of party statutes and threatening disciplinary action.

The internal crisis within Almoradí's PSOE has intensified after the provincial leadership of the PSPV-PSOE formally disavowed the municipal socialist group's decision to remove councilors Rosario Ana Martínez Caracena and Joaquín Barraquel Selva and promote their transition to non-attached status. According to the provincial leadership, this measure violates the party's Federal Statutes.
The controversy arises just days after internal divisions within the socialist group became evident during the municipal plenary session on April 24th, when PSOE councilors voted disparately on the extension linked to the works of the new number 4 school. This situation had already highlighted the internal fracture within the local group.
Now, the Provincial Organization Secretariat of the PSPV-PSOE, through a written statement sent to the Secretary-General of the Almoradí City Council on May 21st, maintains that the expulsion of Rosario Ana Martínez Caracena and Joaquín Barraquel Selva from the municipal group lacks organic validity as there has been no disciplinary proceeding or firm resolution from the competent party bodies.
In the resolution signed by the provincial Organization Secretary, Alejandro Luengo Iglesias, the PSPV recalls that "the loss of the right to be part of a Socialist Institutional Group can only occur as a consequence of a disciplinary resolution adopted by the competent Party bodies." Furthermore, it emphasizes that the municipal group "does not hold autonomous competence to agree to the expulsion of members of the Institutional Group."
The document adds that the decision made in Almoradí could even affect the rights inherent to the representative office as set forth in Article 23 of the Spanish Constitution and concludes by nullifying the municipal agreement, considering that it cannot produce "disciplinary or organizational effects regarding the affected councilors."
In parallel, the provincial Organization Secretariat sent another internal communication addressed to the Secretary of Municipal Policy of the local group, reiterating that the procedure followed does not comply with the PSOE's federal regulations and reminding that any disciplinary proceeding exclusively corresponds to the party's executive bodies.
Internal tension escalated further on May 26th with a new statement signed by the president of the Almoradí Management Committee, Pilar Gay Bódalo, addressed to Ruth Navarrete Barberá. This document warns that maintaining the expulsion of Rosario Ana Martínez Caracena and Joaquín Barraquel Selva could lead to the opening of disciplinary proceedings against those who promoted the measure.
The committee further demands that the agreement adopted on May 8th be "nullified" and requests that a letter be sent to the City Council revoking the request to convert both councilors into non-attached members. The statement even warns of possible internal sanctions ranging from the provisional suspension of duties to expulsion from the party, "depending on the severity of the facts and the persistence in actions contrary to internal resolutions and norms."
All of this deepens the crisis within Almoradí's socialism, where different opposing sensitivities have coexisted for months following the so-called "change of cycle" promoted within the local group. Critical militants had already recently denounced the lack of cohesion within the municipal group and questioned the leadership of the current local secretary-general, Ricardo Rodríguez Hurtado, whom some sectors hold responsible for the internal deterioration and the absence of dialogue within the party.
