The Civil Guard has arrested two men, aged 30 and 34, in Orihuela Costa following a dangerous pursuit that concluded with a collision and the seizure of drugs.

The events occurred yesterday, May 18th, when a patrol from the Citizen Security Unit (USECIC) of Torrevieja observed a vehicle that failed to respect a yield sign at a roundabout. Upon attempting to identify the occupants, the driver sped away through the Villamartín and La Zenia area.
During the chase, the vehicle engaged in reckless maneuvers through crowded streets, even driving on sidewalks, forcing pedestrians and other drivers to swerve to avoid being hit or colliding. Several police vehicles attempted to block the fleeing car due to the imminent danger.
The pursuit ended when the driver collided head-on with a marked Civil Guard patrol car. As a result of the impact, one officer sustained injuries and had to be taken to a hospital for medical attention.
The two occupants of the vehicle were arrested. During the vehicle search, officers found a significant quantity of drugs: 1.5 kilograms of marijuana buds and a small amount of hashish. The detainees, who were unharmed, were also taken to the hospital for a medical check-up before being handed over to judicial authorities.
They are charged with crimes against public health for drug trafficking, against road safety for reckless driving, resistance and disobedience against authority agents, and property damage.
