A forest fire declared in the El Puig area, within the municipality of Benicarló, has led to the closure of the CV-138 road, impacting mobility between Benicarló, Vinaròs, and Càlig.

The fire, which broke out this Monday in the El Puig area, in the municipality of Benicarló, has forced the closure of the CV-138 road between kilometer markers 2 and 7, as reported by the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT). The fire has mobilized a large extinguishing contingent comprising ground and air resources, while emergency services recommend avoiding travel in the area.
The Provincial Firefighters Consortium of Castellón reported around 12:00 PM the mobilization of personnel after a vegetation fire was detected near Muntanyeta de Vinaròs. Subsequently, extinguishing services confirmed that the fire affects a forest area located in El Puig, within the municipality of Benicarló, leading the incident to be identified as #IFBenicarló.
The deployed contingent has been reinforced throughout the day. According to the latest update provided by the Provincial Firefighters Consortium, a team of firefighters, five units of the Generalitat's Forest Firefighters—one of them air-transported—, three air assets, and two forest coordinators are working in the area. The mobilized air resources consist of one helicopter and two extinguishing aircraft, which continue to make water drops on the affected perimeter.
The DGT has closed the CV-138 for safety reasons. The road remains closed between kilometer markers 2 and 7, affecting the stretch between the areas of Vinaròs, Benicarló, and Càlig. To ensure mobility, alternative routes have been established via the CV-135, N-340, and N-232. Authorities recommend avoiding travel in the area while extinction efforts continue.
The deployed personnel are maintaining control and extinction efforts for the fire on a day marked by high temperatures and an elevated risk of propagation. The fire's evolution will determine the duration of traffic restrictions and the need to maintain or expand the mobilized device.
