According to the union's complaint, all structural cardiology positions within the Internal Medicine Service have remained vacant since 2025. This circumstance leaves the hospital without its own staff in a crucial specialty for treating cardiovascular diseases, which are a leading cause of mortality.
To minimally cover assistance, cardiology specialists are transferred from other health departments two to three days a week. These professionals only handle the most urgent consultations and hospitalizations, leaving many other cases without adequate attention.
“"This system functions as an 'organizational patch' and causes ordinary follow-up visits and non-urgent complementary tests to remain pending for an uncertain or even indefinite period."
The union insists that the healthcare coverage offered to patients is very limited and risky, as there is no stable cardiology team in the department. UGT believes that the difficult-to-fill nature of this service could prolong the situation and leave patients and users of the public health system in the region in a state of helplessness.
The health department is awaiting the resolution of the stabilization process for difficult-to-fill positions, on which the occupation of basic cardiology positions depends. UGT Serveis Públics PV urges the health administration to accelerate this process and adopt extraordinary measures for professional incentives and retention to urgently staff the structural cardiology team at Vinaròs Comarcal Hospital.
